Saturday, April 13, 2002, 10:30am / Hercules, CA / scramble format

On a warm and sunny April day, the Mulligans Golf Association (MGA) hosted its first scramble tournament at the Franklin Canyon Golf Course. The second tournament of the year brought in the largest attendance in MGA's young history.

The par-72 course provided prime conditions with a daytime temperature in the low 80s, not a cloud in the sky, very little wind and moderately quick greens. Over 30 players teed off from the white tees, which challenged golfers of all skill levels with a friendly distance total of 6,201 yards. Competition was encouraged on the 504-yard, par 5 hole #13 for the Longest Drive and on the 138-yard, par 3 hole #17 for the Closest to the Pin.

First and Second place team winners were determined by a unified score, which adjusted with an aggregate team handicap index. The First Place trophies were given to Team 3 with a net score of 61, captained by Gene Ryu. In Second Place, Team 5, captained by Christina Tran, boasted a final score of 63. The Longest Drive prize of a mascot clubhead cover was awarded to Darren Ewaniuk and the Closest to the Pin prize of a gift certificate to any American Golf Pro Shop was received by Brian Kim. Congratulations to all the winners!

Overall, this scramble tournament provided a fun and friendly format in which golfers of all skill levels could play. We hope all the participants had as much fun as we had putting it together. See you at the next one!
